About

Lake Owyhee State Park sits on the eastern edge of Oregon, providing a remote recreational oasis along the shores of Owyhee Reservoir. This 53-mile-long lake fills a narrow, deep canyon brimming with colorful volcanic rock formations, creating a dramatic desert landscape. The park features two distinct campgrounds: McCormack Campground with 29 electric and water hookup sites, and Indian Creek Campground with more primitive options. The park caters primarily to boaters and anglers seeking solitude in a scenic desert canyon setting. The reservoir offers excellent fishing for rainbow trout and catfish, while the surrounding volcanic formations provide stunning photography opportunities. McCormack Campground includes modern amenities such as flush toilets, hot showers, and a dump station, making it suitable for RVs up to 65 feet. The campground offers both pull-through and back-in sites, with several ADA-accessible options. Visitors should be prepared for the remote location and plan accordingly. Potable water is only available from April through October; winter visitors must bring their own water supply. The narrow, winding access road requires caution, especially for larger rigs. Two rental cabins are available for those seeking a roof overhead while enjoying this isolated high desert paradise.
