About

Farewell Bend State Recreation Area offers a scenic desert camping experience on the banks of the Snake River's Brownlee Reservoir, approximately 25 miles northwest of Ontario, Oregon. The campground is located at a historically significant site on the Oregon Trail where emigrants camped and watered their animals one last time along the Snake River after following it for over 300 miles before heading into the Burnt River country. The park features 110 campsites organized into three loops. Loop A contains tent sites and some standard sites, while Loops B and C offer standard sites with various amenities. Many sites include electric and water hookups, though water is shut off to sites from October through April. Maximum equipment length varies by site, with some accommodating rigs up to 52 feet. The campground provides modern amenities including flush toilets, showers that remain available year-round, and trash service. The reservoir offers excellent opportunities for fishing and boating, with water levels that fluctuate throughout the year. Historic markers and interpretive displays throughout the park provide information about Farewell Bend's role on the Oregon Trail. Visitors should be aware that mosquito populations can be high during summer months, and campfire restrictions may be in place during dry periods.
