About
Silver City Campground sits within the remains of a partially restored 19th-century mining town deep in Idaho's Owyhee Mountains, 70 miles southwest of Boise. This small Bureau of Land Management campground offers a unique opportunity to camp among history, with the partially preserved structures and artifacts of one of Idaho's most significant mining boom towns surrounding the camping area. The remote location in the Owyhees provides spectacular mountain scenery and a true backcountry experience. Visitors can explore the historic town site, hike the surrounding mountains, and experience the isolation that characterized life in this once-thriving mining community. The campground is primitive with minimal facilities, and road access requires careful navigation on mountain roads. Due to the legacy of 19th-century mining operations, campers must bring all their own drinking water. The water in Jordan Creek that runs through the campground may contain mercury contamination from historical mining activity and should not be used for drinking, cooking, or washing. The remote location and primitive nature make this campground ideal for self-sufficient campers seeking historical significance and mountain solitude.
