Silver City Campground

Open

The campground typically opens late May through early September, weather and road conditions permitting. First-come, first-served only with no reservations. No fees. 14-day stay limit.

About

Silver City Campground provides a rare opportunity to camp in a genuine Old West ghost town. At its peak, Silver City was home to approximately 2,500 residents and numerous businesses. Today, the partially restored town contains 75 structures dating from the 1860s to the early 1900s, many still in use. The campground sits at the heart of this historic district in the Owyhee Mountains. This primitive BLM campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no fees and a 14-day stay limit. The remote location 70 miles southwest of Boise requires a significant drive on unpaved mountain roads. Campers must bring all their own drinking water, as Jordan Creek running through the area may contain mercury contamination from the region's extensive mining history. The surrounding area offers excellent opportunities for hiking, historical exploration, and off-highway vehicle use. The picturesque mountain scenery and well-preserved historic buildings make Silver City a unique destination for history buffs and those seeking a true backcountry camping experience.
