About

The Idaho City Backcountry Yurts system has been providing outdoor enthusiasts with a unique mountain experience since 1996. Located approximately 56-63 miles north of Boise in the Boise National Forest, this system features six well-furnished backcountry yurts that operate year-round. Each yurt comfortably sleeps six people and offers high mountain views with no neighbors, creating an intimate wilderness experience. Access to the yurts varies dramatically by season. During winter months, visitors must ski or snowshoe 2-3 miles to reach their yurt, making it a true backcountry adventure. Summer access is much easier with drive-up capability and only a few hundred-yard hike required. Spring and fall conditions can vary, so visitors should be prepared for both summer and winter scenarios. A high-clearance, all-wheel drive vehicle is recommended when traveling to the yurts. The yurts provide access to diverse recreational opportunities including hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, Nordic and Telemark skiing, and snowshoeing. Whether you're a beginner looking for a comfortable introduction to backcountry camping or an experienced adventurer seeking solitude in the mountains, the Idaho City Backcountry Yurts offer an accessible yet authentic wilderness experience in all seasons.
