About
Hemlock Lake Campground sits in a secluded mountain setting at 4,000 feet elevation in the North Umpqua District of Umpqua National Forest. The campground surrounds a beautiful 28-acre man-made reservoir that reaches 33 feet at its deepest point and is regularly stocked with trout, providing excellent fishing opportunities from shore or by boat. The facility offers 13 campsites nestled among stands of mixed conifers, including one double site, nine sites that accommodate RVs and trailers, and three designated tent-only sites. The campground is operated by a concessionaire under permit from the Umpqua National Forest. Amenities include vault toilets, developed fire pits at each site, picnic tables, and a boat ramp with dedicated parking. No potable water is available, so visitors must bring their own or treat water from nearby sources. Motors are not allowed on the lake, maintaining a peaceful atmosphere for paddlers and anglers. Recreation opportunities extend beyond the immediate campground. A loop trail circles the lake, offering easy access to the shoreline and picnic areas. The nearby Yellow Jacket Loop Trail traverses high-elevation timber and alpine meadows abundant with wildflowers in spring and summer, while Hemlock Creek Trail provides backpacking access to Lake in the Woods. The area is known for populations of elk, sooty grouse, black bear, and black-tailed deer. Located approximately 32 miles from the town of Glide via Little River Road, this campground offers a quiet, remote experience for those seeking solitude in the Cascades.
