About

Hemlock Meadows Campground offers a rare combination of seclusion and basic amenities deep in Oregon's Umpqua National Forest. With only four campsites arranged along the south edge of Yellowjacket Glade, this is a destination for campers seeking solitude rather than social camping. The campground borders Hemlock Lake, a scenic 28-acre reservoir stocked with rainbow trout and kokanee salmon. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, and vault toilets are provided. However, there is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. Trash service is also unavailable; pack-it-out rules apply. A boat launch with dedicated parking sits at the edge of the campground, though motorized boats are prohibited on the lake. The surrounding Yellowjacket Glade roadless area is known for wildlife viewing opportunities including elk, black bear, black-tailed deer, and sooty grouse. The drive in is roughly 48 miles from Roseburg via OR-138 and Forest Road 17, with the final stretch following the east arm of the lake.

Directions

From Roseburg, OR, take OR-138 east approximately 16 miles to Little River Road/Forest Road 17 on the right. Turn right and continue 32 miles to Hemlock Meadows Campground, located 0.5 mile around the east arm of Hemlock Lake.
