About

Lake Harris Campground is a New York State DEC facility on the northern shore of 275-acre Lake Harris in Essex County. The lake is fed by the Hudson River, making it a scenic destination in the heart of the Adirondacks. Of the 89 campsites, 57 are shoreline sites offering direct water access, while 32 are set back from the water. Sites accommodate tents through 40-foot RVs, with equipment length limits ranging from 20 to 40 feet depending on the site. The campground features hot showers, flush toilets, a trailer dump station, and a recycling center. An informal boat launch is located on-site, with a larger town-owned launch across the lake. Canoe and boat rentals are available. Swimming is permitted in a designated beach area but is unsupervised. The lake offers fishing for walleye, northern pike, largemouth and smallmouth bass, bullhead, and yellow perch. Nearby hiking destinations include the Santanoni Preserve, Goodnow Mountain, Vanderwhacker Mountain, and the High Peaks Wilderness. The campground is located about 1 mile off Route 28N in Newcomb.
