Special Weather Statement issued May 23 at 2:33AM EDT by NWS Burlington VT

2:33 AM — 12:00 PM

* The warm air temperatures today in the upper 60s to lower 70s may cause people to underestimate the dangers of the cold water temperatures. Lake and river temperatures are only in the upper 40s to mid 50s. * The cold water temperatures can quickly cause hypothermia to anyone immersed in the water. According to the US Coast Guard, when the water temperatures are below 60 degrees, the average submerged person could lose dexterity within minutes and be unable to accomplish simple tasks. Anyone on small boats, canoes or kayaks should plan accordingly if recreating today and use extreme caution to avoid this threat. Paddle smart from the start and always wear your life jacket!

About

Fish Creek Pond Campground sits within the heart of the Adirondack Park near Saranac Lake, earning its reputation as the premier public campground in the region. The facility spreads along the shores of Fish Creek Pond, providing direct water access from the majority of its 355 campsites. A natural sand beach, playground, volleyball and basketball courts, and an amphitheater with daily interpretive programs during summer months offer recreation beyond the water. The campground accommodates everything from tents to 40-foot RVs, though no hookups are available. Facilities include flush toilets, hot showers operating from late May through Columbus Day, a trailer dump station, and firewood sales. Eleven ADA-accessible campsites are distributed throughout the facility, along with accessible restrooms and a wheelchair charging station. Boating is a primary draw, with a boat launch providing access to Fish Creek Pond and connecting waterways. Motorized boats, canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards are all welcome. Fishing opportunities abound in the pond's freshwater, and hiking trails extend into the surrounding Adirondack wilderness.
