About

Lac qui Parle State Park's Group Campground consists of two distinct group camping areas (GC1 and GC2), each capable of hosting up to 50 people. Named after the Dakota phrase for "lake that speaks," the park sits along the Minnesota River in the western prairie region. The group camps provide a primitive camping experience with essential amenities including picnic tables, fire rings with grills, vault toilets, and access to water. The park is particularly notable for its exceptional birding opportunities. Each spring and fall, thousands of Canada geese and other waterfowl use Lac qui Parle as a migration stopover, creating spectacular viewing opportunities. The surrounding landscape features restored prairie, wetlands, and river bottom forests. Hiking trails wind through diverse habitats, and the nearby Lac qui Parle Mission provides historical context about the area's Dakota and missionary heritage. Group camping here suits scout troops, family reunions, church groups, and outdoor clubs seeking a rustic experience in Minnesota's prairie lake country. Modern restroom and shower facilities are not available at the group camp, so campers should prepare accordingly.
