About
Located in the Lower Campground section of Lac Qui Parle State Park, the group campground offers two dedicated sites for larger gatherings, with each site capable of hosting up to 50 people. The park is situated on the shores of Lac Qui Parle Lake in western Minnesota near the South Dakota border, in an area known for its spectacular waterfowl migrations during spring and fall. The name "Lac Qui Parle" is a French translation of the Dakota name meaning "lake that speaks," referencing the sounds of thousands of Canada geese and other migratory birds that use the lake as a stopover. The park encompasses 1,057 acres and provides access to fishing, hiking trails, and the historic Fort Renville and Lac Qui Parle Mission sites. The Lower Campground area includes vault toilets and is set in a grassy area with shade trees. The group camping area provides a base for exploring the park's 6 miles of hiking trails and fishing opportunities on the nearly 6,000-acre lake, which supports populations of walleye, northern pike, perch, and panfish. The park also offers cross-country ski trails in winter and is popular for wildlife viewing year-round, with frequent sightings of bald eagles and white-tailed deer.
