Glacial Lakes State Park Backpack Campsites

Open — Open for reservations year-round through the Minnesota State Parks reservation system. Seasonal amenities including showers and main campground facilities operate during warmer months, but backpack sites remain accessible in winter.

About

Glacial Lakes State Park's backpack campsites provide primitive camping experiences in one of Minnesota's rare preserved prairie landscapes. The park features multiple hike-in sites accessible via the park's trail system, including the Baby Lake site located approximately two miles from the trailhead. These remote campsites offer backcountry camping opportunities amid rolling glacial hills where prairie and central hardwood forests meet. The park preserves rare native prairie featuring big and little bluestem grass, Indian grass, prairie clover, and wildflowers. Hikers can enjoy excellent vistas of the park's 56-acre Signalness Lake and explore trails that pass glacial formations and scenic overlooks. The backpack sites are primitive in nature with minimal amenities, suitable for experienced backpackers seeking solitude in Minnesota's prairie environment.
