Glacial Lakes State Park Backpack Campsites

Open

The campground is currently open. Backpack sites are available for reservation up to 120 days in advance through the Minnesota DNR reservation system.

About

Located in Pope County's rolling glacial terrain, Glacial Lakes State Park's backpack campsites provide a primitive backcountry experience within one of Minnesota's most scenic prairie landscapes. The park sits at elevations up to 1,352 feet, featuring kettle lakes formed by ancient glaciers and sweeping views of open prairie. Three hike-in sites are available: Baby Lake (2 miles from horse camp parking) includes a tie post for horses along with standard amenities; Kettle Lake (also 2 miles out) offers lovely prairie views but no shade or wind protection; and Oak (0.8 miles from Oakridge Campground) is nestled among oak trees. Each site has a picnic table, fire ring, and pit toilet. Campers must be self-sufficient, packing in all water, firewood, and supplies. The park's spring-fed Signalness Lake is nearby for swimming and fishing (no license required for MN residents), with watercraft rentals available at the main park area.

Directions

From Starbuck, take MN-29 south approximately 5 miles to the park entrance. A paved trail connects the town of Starbuck to the park.
