Special Weather Statement issued October 10 at 2:49AM CDT by NWS Twin Cities/Chanhassen MN
Near record high temperatures today will bring relative humidity values down into the 25 to 35 percent range today. This combined with wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph will create near critical fire weather conditions today. This could lead to rapid spread of fires, especially in agricultural areas where crops have become drier for harvest. Check burning restrictions and fire danger before burning. For more information on burning restrictions for Minnesota, see www.dnr.state.mn.us/forestry/fire/firerating_restrictions.html.
Special Weather Statement issued October 10 at 1:47AM CDT by NWS Aberdeen SD
Warm and dry conditions will combine with strong wind gusts today to create elevated fire weather concerns over the area this afternoon. Due to abnormal warmth, minimum afternoon humidity will drop to 25 to 35 percent. Strong southerly winds are expected this morning, gusting up to 25 to 35 miles per hour. Some localized gusts up to 45 miles per hour will be possible. Winds are expected to decrease through the afternoon, meaning that the strongest winds will not coincide with the lowest afternoon humidity. However, gusts up to 30 miles per hour may linger into the afternoon. Grassland Fire Danger will reach the High Category as a result of the wind and humidity combination. Additionally, these strong winds may create blowing dust today, causing visibility reductions at times.
