Glacial Lakes State Park Equestrian Campground
Open — The campground operates seasonally, typically spring through fall. Closed during winter months.
About
The Glacial Lakes State Park Equestrian Campground provides a rustic base for horseback riders exploring the park's rolling prairie hills and glacial landscape. This open, grassy horse camp features 8 non-electric campsites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. The facility includes 5 sets of double-tie posts for securing horses, a vault toilet, hand pump for water access via a gravel trail, and a manure pit with wheelbarrow for cleanup. A day-use staging area accommodates trailers. Riders can explore 9 miles of horse trails within the park, winding through native prairie grasslands, oak forests, and past glacial formations including kettle lakes. A remote hike-in or ride-in campsite at Baby Lake offers additional backcountry camping options 2 miles from the main horse camp. The park sits atop a complex glacial deposit where prairie meets central hardwood forest, providing diverse terrain and scenic vistas. A Minnesota Horse Pass is required for riders 16 and older. The campground operates seasonally, typically from spring through fall. Campers should bring adequate water supplies and practice Leave No Trace principles. Shower facilities are not available at the horse camp but can be accessed at the Lower Campground with purchase of shower tickets from the park office.
