About

The equestrian campground at Glacial Lakes State Park offers a peaceful retreat for horseback riders in Minnesota's prairie pothole region. Set in open, grassy terrain among glacial hills and kettle lakes, the campground provides 8 non-electric sites, each with a picnic table and fire ring with grill. Five sets of double-tie posts accommodate horses, and a gravel trail leads to a hand pump for water access. A vault toilet and manure pit with wheelbarrow serve the campground. Riders have access to over 9 miles of trails within the park, plus the option to ride to the Baby Lake hike-in campsite located about two miles from the horse camp parking area. The surrounding landscape features native tallgrass prairie, oak savanna, and numerous glacial lakes including Signalness Lake and Mountain Lake. A Horse Pass is required for all riders over age 16 on DNR-managed trails. The campground accommodates horse trailers and offers a day-use staging area. Early spring and fall visits are popular when cooler temperatures reduce mosquito pressure and the prairie grasses display golden hues.
