Open for the 2026 camping season. Operating season is generally May through September. Potable water is available but may be turned off during low-sunlight months. No cell service at the campground. Sites available via Recreation.gov or first-come, first-served with on-site payment through the Recreation.gov app.
About
Fan Creek Recreation Site is one of four Bureau of Land Management campgrounds within the Nestucca River Recreation Area. Situated along the Nestucca River National Back Country Byway, this small campground provides a peaceful retreat in Oregon's Coast Range with 11 individual campsites and one group shelter. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, and paved parking area. The campground has two vault toilets and a centralized well providing potable drinking water, though water may be turned off during months with reduced sunlight. An accessible trail leads to a fishing and viewing platform overlooking the Nestucca Wild and Scenic River, which is renowned for its steelhead and salmon fishing. The remote location means no cell service is available in the drainage. Visitors should download the Recreation.gov app before arriving if planning to pay on-site. Log trucks operate year-round on nearby roads, and winter conditions can bring snow and ice hazards.
Directions
From Coastal Hwy 101 at Beaver: Turn right onto Blaine Road and drive 7 miles to reach the Nestucca Byway. From Willamina: Take Willamina Creek Road to Coast Creek Road to Gilbert Creek Road to Bald Mountain Access Road to Bible Creek Road to the Nestucca Byway. From Carlton: Take Meadow Lake Road west 12 miles, then continue onto the Nestucca Byway.
