About

Fan Creek Recreation Site is a Bureau of Land Management campground nestled along the Nestucca Wild and Scenic River in Oregon's Coast Range. Part of the Nestucca River Recreation Area, this small campground offers 11 individual campsites and a group shelter in a remote riverside setting along the Nestucca River National Back Country Byway. The byway takes travelers on a slow, leisurely route that winds through the Coast Range, with the Nestucca River renowned for its fishing opportunities and natural beauty. Each campsite features a picnic table, fire ring, and paved parking area. The campground provides vault toilets and a centralized well with potable drinking water during the main season. An accessible trail leads to a fishing and viewing platform along the river. The area offers excellent opportunities for fishing, wildlife viewing, and photography in a setting removed from the electronic age with no cell reception in the drainage. Nearby attractions include the Nestucca Off-Highway Vehicle Area with Whipup Flat, Elk Flat, and Grassy Flat. The campground operates seasonally with sites available both by reservation through Recreation.gov and as first-come, first-served. Visitors should download the Recreation.gov Mobile App before arriving due to lack of cell service.

Directions

From Coastal Highway 101 at Beaver: Turn right onto Blaine Road and drive 7 miles to reach the Nestucca Byway. From Willamina: Take Willamina Creek Road to Coast Creek Road to Gilbert Creek Road to Bald Mountain Access Road to Bible Creek Road to the Nestucca Byway. From Carlton: Take Meadow Lake Road west 12 miles, continue onto the Nestucca Byway.
