Laurel Summit State Park
Open — Open year-round for day use from sunrise to sunset. The pavilion is available for reservation through the Pennsylvania State Parks system. No overnight camping facilities are available at this location.
Special Weather Statement issued April 12 at 4:55AM EDT by NWS State College PA
The combination of drying fine fuels and leaf litter, low relative humidity of around 35 percent and a southerly wind gusting between 20 and 25 mph during the late morning and afternoon hours, will create an elevated risk of wildfire spread across the southern half of Pennsylvania today. Residents are urged to exercise caution if handling any potential ignition sources, such as machinery, cigarettes, or matches. If dry grasses and tree litter begin to burn, the fire will have the potential to spread rapidly. For more information about wildfire danger and wildfire prevention and education, please visit the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources website at http://dcnr.pa.gov/Communities/Wildfire.
About
Laurel Summit State Park is a 6-acre day-use picnic area situated at 2,739 feet above sea level on the summit of Laurel Mountain in southwestern Pennsylvania. Operated by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, this scenic area provides commanding views of Laurel Ridge and the surrounding region while maintaining a remote, wooded atmosphere. The park offers basic picnic facilities including picnic tables, a reservable pavilion that accommodates up to 46 people, restrooms, and water. Due to its elevation, the area experiences temperatures several degrees cooler than the surrounding valley communities, making it a popular retreat during warmer months. Laurel Summit serves as an important trailhead providing access to trails in Forbes State Forest. Hikers can access the Wolf Rocks Trail, Spruce Flats bog, and the 70-mile Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail directly from the park. The area is popular for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and winter recreation including snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. This is a carry in/carry out facility, so visitors must pack out all trash.
Directions
Located in Westmoreland County at the intersection of Linn Run Road and Laurel Summit Road. The park is managed by nearby Linn Run State Park.
