About

Dry Wolf Group Camp is located in the heart of Charlie Russell Country within the Little Belt Mountains of Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest. Positioned along Dry Wolf Creek at an elevation of 5,900 feet, the campground offers a peaceful mountain setting surrounded by meadows, spruce, and fir trees. Bandbox Mountain provides a scenic backdrop where marine fossils can be discovered. The area provides access to fishing platforms along Dry Wolf Creek, where anglers can try for catch-and-release hybrid cutthroat trout. A food storage order is in effect from March 1st to December 1st to prevent human-bear conflicts, requiring all unattended food and attractants to be stored properly. The campground is subject to a 16-day consecutive stay limit. Access to the campground involves driving approximately 20 miles from Stanford on County Road 251 (Dry Wolf Road). The last 8 miles are single-lane dirt and gravel road. The remote location and mountain setting make this an ideal destination for groups seeking a backcountry experience in central Montana's national forest lands.

Directions

From Stanford, take US Highway 87 north 1.2 miles to Forest Access sign. Turn left and go 4.3 miles to Y intersection. Bear right and continue 15.7 miles to campground sign. Turn right into campground. All but the first mile is gravel and dirt, with the last 8 miles being single-lane.
