Dry Wolf Campground

About

Nestled in the Little Belt Mountains of central Montana, Dry Wolf Campground provides 25 campsites along the banks of Dry Wolf Creek. The campground sits in Charlie Russell Country, named for the famous Western artist who found inspiration in this rugged landscape. Bandbox Mountain surrounds the area, where campers can discover marine fossils from when ancient seas covered the region. Two fishing platforms along Dry Wolf Creek offer accessible angling opportunities near the campground. Each site includes a fire ring or grill and a picnic table, with potable water available from a hand pump during the operating season. At least one vault toilet is ADA accessible. The campground can accommodate trailers up to 45 feet, though the access road narrows to single-lane gravel for the final 8 miles. All sites are first-come, first-served with no reservations available. Camping is limited to 16 consecutive days, and a food storage order requires proper storage of all attractants from March 1 through December 1 to prevent bear conflicts. Leashed dogs are welcome, but horses are not permitted in the campground.

Directions

From Stanford, take US Highway 87 north 1.2 miles to the Forest Access sign. Turn left and go 4.3 miles to the Y intersection. Bear right and continue 15.7 miles to the campground sign, then turn right into the campground. All but the first mile is gravel and dirt; the last 8 miles is single-lane.
