About
Since the 1900s, Jumpup Cabin has been used by ranchers and the Forest Service and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of Arizona's Rooms with a View cabin rental program. The rustic log cabin sits at 5,500 feet elevation on the edge of Jumpup Canyon with panoramic views of Kanab Creek Wilderness, red rock formations, and high desert vegetation including juniper, pinyon, yucca, sage, and cliffrose. The cabin features two distinct rooms: a main living and cooking area with table, chairs, wood burning stove, and small kitchenette with wash tub, plus a bunk room with two sets of double-over-double bunk beds sleeping up to 8 people. Lanterns and cooking supplies are provided, but there is no electricity, running water, or propane. Guests must bring their own water, firewood, linens or sleeping bags. A composting toilet, fire ring, and picnic table are located outside. Located at the trailhead for Ranger Trail, a 17-mile wilderness trail winding through Kanab Creek that is popular in spring and fall. Lower Jumpup Spring, a perennial spring with holding tank, is accessible via a quarter-mile hike down the trail. The cabin is situated 2 hours from Grand Canyon's North Rim, 2.5 hours from Zion National Park, and 2 hours from Kanab, Utah. Access requires unpaved forest roads; high clearance vehicles recommended.

From Fredonia: Travel south on US Highway 89A for approximately 1.6 miles, turn right onto Forest Road 22 and follow for approximately 22.9 miles, turn right onto Forest Road 423 and follow for approximately 5 miles, continue straight onto Forest Road 427 and follow for approximately 2.2 miles, turn right onto Forest Road 236 and follow for approximately 7.3 miles, turn left onto Forest Road 423 and follow approximately 3.7 miles to Jumpup Cabin. High clearance vehicle recommended; roads impassable in snow or deep mud.
