About

Jumpup Cabin is a historic two-room structure listed on the National Register of Historic Places, originally used by ranchers and later by the Forest Service since the 1900s. Situated at 5,500 feet on the edge of Jumpup Canyon, the cabin offers panoramic views of Kanab Creek Wilderness with its dramatic red rock descending into canyon walls lined with juniper, pinyon, yucca, sage, and cliffrose. The cabin features a main living area with a table, chairs, wood-burning stove (the sole heat source), and a small kitchenette with a wash tub. The bunk room contains two sets of double-over-double bunk beds accommodating up to 8 guests. Lanterns and basic cooking supplies are provided, but there is no electricity, running water, or propane. A composting toilet and outdoor fire ring with picnic table are on site. Water is available at Lower Jumpup Spring, a 0.25-mile hike down the Ranger Trail. The cabin sits at the trailhead for the Ranger Trail #41, a challenging 17-mile wilderness route through Kanab Creek. Hiking is popular in spring and fall but discouraged during summer heat. The area is approximately 2 hours from Grand Canyon North Rim and 2.5 hours from Zion National Park.
