About
Big Springs Administrative Center is on the National Register of Historic Places and has been used by homesteaders and the Forest Service since the 1800s. Seven historic cabins are available for public rental, each offering a rustic but comfortable experience. Cabins 1-6 feature two twin beds and one full bed with wood stoves and electric heaters, while Cabin 7 has one queen bed. All guests share access to a fully furnished kitchen, dining hall with books and games, lounge area, and shower house. The site is named for the most abundant water source on the Kaibab Plateau, which flows down a limestone cliff and pools near the cabins. Nestled among ponderosa pines at high elevation, the area offers a peaceful setting surrounded by lush vegetation and several ponds. There is no cell service or internet at this remote location. Big Springs is an excellent base camp for exploring the North Kaibab Ranger District, with easy access via Forest Road 22 to scenic Grand Canyon overlooks. The site is approximately 30 minutes from Fredonia, AZ/Kanab, UT and within an hour's drive of the Grand Canyon North Rim.
