About
Jacob Lake Recreation Area occupies a prime location on the Kaibab Plateau at 7,920 feet elevation, nestled in a Ponderosa pine forest at the intersection of US 89A and State Route 67. This is the gateway to Grand Canyon National Park's North Rim, just 44 miles south. The campground offers 51 sites including standard single sites and group sites accommodating up to 100 people. Amenities include vault toilets and limited potable water (RV tank filling is not permitted). Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. There are no hookups, showers, or dump stations. Directly across the street, Jacob Lake Inn provides a restaurant, gas station, gift shop, limited groceries, and reservations for horseback riding, chuck wagon rides, and bike rentals. The surrounding Kaibab National Forest offers excellent recreation including the one-mile loop trail from the campground and the Kaibab Plateau Trail, a section of the Arizona Trail running north-to-south across the state. Mountain biking trails range from beginner to advanced. The area is home to the endemic Kaibab squirrel, found nowhere else on Earth, and numerous bird species in the marsh areas near the lake.
