About

Indian Mounds Campground sits on the northeast corner of Lake Tomahawk in the southern portion of the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest. Lake Tomahawk connects to the Minocqua Chain of Lakes, offering excellent fishing and boating opportunities. The campground has 39 sites including standard sites for tents and small RVs, double campsites (sites 9-10 and 17-18) that accommodate up to 12 people and two camping units, and walk-to tent-only sites (sites 24-27 and 29-31) that require a short hike from the parking area. As a rustic campground, facilities are minimal but functional: three vault toilet buildings (three of which are ADA-accessible), three hand pumps providing potable water, and separate trash and recycling dumpsters. An adjacent boat launch with its own vault toilet provides direct lake access. Campers may collect deadwood from the forest floor for campfires, though chainsaws are prohibited in and near the campground. A paved trail connects Indian Mounds to the Clear Lake Day Use Area in the southern part of the forest, providing additional recreational options for cyclists and hikers.
