About
Illinois River Forks State Park is a 288-acre day-use park situated at the confluence of the east and west forks of the Illinois River, just south of Cave Junction along Highway 199. Renovated through a collaborative community effort in 2012, the park now offers well-maintained facilities including paved parking, grass lawns, picnic tables, and a gazebo. The developed area between the river forks provides convenient access to popular swimming holes during summer. The park features a 9-hole disc golf course, a short walking trail near the picnic area, and vault toilet facilities. Large shade trees provide relief on hot summer days. The west side of the park, accessed from Westside Road, offers the West Side Trailhead with nearly seven miles of natural surface hiking and equestrian trails, complete with graveled parking including pull-through spaces for horse trailers. This park serves as an ideal stopping point for travelers heading to or from the Oregon coast or California's redwood groves. The Illinois River's meeting point creates a scenic and geologically interesting landscape perfect for day trips, picnicking, and outdoor recreation.
Directions
