About

Store Gulch Guard Station is a historic Civilian Conservation Corps guard station constructed in 1929, representing an outstanding example of CCC-era Forest Service architecture in the Pacific Northwest. The structure is located along the Wild and Scenic Illinois River in southwestern Oregon's Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The guard station sits directly across Illinois River Road from the Store Gulch Picnic Site, approximately 9 miles west of Selma, Oregon. The picnic area offers spectacular views of the Illinois River and includes a steep quarter-mile trail winding down to the river. Basic facilities at the picnic site include vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings, though no drinking water is available. Store Gulch Campground, a small developed campground with 4 standard sites and 2 walk-in sites, is located just past the guard station. The area provides access to the Illinois River corridor for fishing, hiking, and river recreation. Visitors should be prepared to bring their own water and pack out all trash, as no water or garbage services are provided at this remote location.
