About
Howers Campground occupies a scenic spot on the northeast shore of Deadwood Reservoir in western Idaho's Boise National Forest. The 10 standard nonelectric sites are nestled in a mixed-growth pine forest that provides ample shade and sweeping views of the reservoir. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, with vault toilets and hand-pump potable water stations available throughout the campground. The remote location keeps Deadwood Reservoir quiet and lightly visited, making it excellent for fishing. Anglers target Chinook and Kokanee salmon along with rainbow and cutthroat trout. A boat ramp is available about two miles away at Cozy Cove Campground. Beyond fishing, visitors enjoy boating, water skiing, canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and OHV trails around the lake and surrounding landscape. Reservations are available through Recreation.gov, though some first-come, first-served sites may be available. After the official season ends September 30, dispersed camping is permitted until snow closes access, though water and toilet services are unavailable during that period.
Directions
From Boise, take State Highway 55 north to Banks. Take Highway 17 (Banks-Lowman Highway) east to Lowman. Continue on Highway 17 over Banner Summit. Turn west on Forest Road 579 and continue into the campground.
