Open — Dispersed camping is generally allowed year-round throughout Boise National Forest; however, Forest Road 671 (Silver Creek Road) is typically inaccessible during winter months due to snow. Summer and fall access depends on road conditions.

Weed Free Hay Order 04-2021-03

About

Lower Silver Creek Dispersed camping area is located in the Boise National Forest along Forest Road 671 (Silver Creek Road) in Valley County, Idaho. This primitive dispersed camping area offers visitors a remote camping experience in the forested mountains of central Idaho. The area sits along the Silver Creek drainage, which is known for fishing and access to backcountry trails. As a dispersed camping area, there are no designated campsites, reservations, or developed amenities. Campers must be self-sufficient and practice Leave No Trace principles. The area is accessible via Forest Road 698 (Middle Fork Road) from Crouch, then approximately 8 miles up Forest Road 671. Winter access may be limited or impossible due to snow closure of Forest Road 671. The location provides access to outdoor recreation including fishing, hiking, and exploring the Silver Creek area. The established Silver Creek Campground with developed facilities is located further up Forest Road 671. Dispersed camping visitors should be prepared for primitive conditions and pack out all trash.

Directions

From Boise, travel north on Highway 55 to Banks. Turn east on Highway 17 (Banks-Lowman Road) and continue 8 miles toward Garden Valley. Turn north on Forest Road 698 (Middle Fork Road) and pass through Crouch, continuing north approximately 16 miles to the junction with Forest Road 671 (Silver Creek Road). Turn right on Forest Road 671 and dispersed camping opportunities are found along this road.
