About

Horseshoe Recreation Area is tucked in a scenic valley along the Horseshoe Run River in the Monongahela National Forest, just 7 miles from St. George, West Virginia. The campground features 21 campsites spread across an electric loop with paved pads and a non-electric loop. Sites range from 24 to 55 feet in length, accommodating various RV sizes. Standard electric sites offer 15/30/50 amp service, picnic tables, fire pits, and paved pads, while non-electric sites provide similar amenities without hookups. A few walk-in tent sites are also available. The recreation area sits within mowed fields along the river, with gravel roads winding through the campground. Four accessible flush restrooms, three water spigots, and a camp store selling firewood and ice serve campers. Fishing for trout is popular along Horseshoe Run, and several day hiking trails depart from the campground, including the 1.8-mile Losh Trail, the 1.3-mile Dorman Ridge Trail, and the short 0.3-mile Two Camp Trail. Hunting is permitted in areas about a mile beyond the recreation area. The day-use area features a historic wooden pavilion, a swimming and snorkeling area, and open fields perfect for family activities.
