About

Red Creek Campground is a primitive, small campground that sits on top of the Allegheny Plateau within the Dolly Sods Scenic Area of Monongahela National Forest. The high-elevation setting creates a climate and plant life that resembles Northern Canada, offering a unique camping experience in the Mid-Atlantic region. The campground is located adjacent to Dolly Sods Wilderness, providing easy access to exceptional wilderness hiking and unique scenery. Flowering laurel, rhododendron, and azaleas highlight the area from May through June, while huckleberry picking is popular during July. Bird banding is performed in late summer and fall, making this an excellent location for wildlife enthusiasts. The area's unusual plant communities and distinctive northern boreal character make it one of the most stunning wilderness destinations in the region. As a primitive facility, Red Creek Campground offers a true backcountry experience without modern amenities. The campground operates first-come, first-served with no reservations. Located approximately 20 miles northwest of Petersburg, West Virginia and 24 miles north of Seneca Rocks, access is via Forest Road 75. Maximum stay is 14 days, and camping within 300 feet of FR75 is only allowed in the designated campground.
