About

Swallow Falls State Park, located in Garrett County, Maryland, spans 257 acres along the Youghiogheny River. The park is renowned for its breathtaking scenery, including the 53-foot Muddy Creek Falls—the state's highest free-falling waterfall—and a stand of old-growth hemlock trees over 300 years old. The park offers 65 wooded campsites, each equipped with a fire ring, picnic table, and lantern post on a stabilized pad. Three sites provide full hookups (electric, water, and sewer), while three others offer electric and water hookups. Modern bathhouses with hot and cold water are centrally located within the campground loops. Recreational opportunities abound, with a 1.25-mile hiking trail guiding visitors through the forest to several waterfalls, including Muddy Creek Falls. A 5.5-mile trail connects Swallow Falls to Herrington Manor State Park, suitable for hiking and mountain biking. The park also features a picnic area with a pavilion and playground. Pets are permitted in the campground and on trails connected to the state forest, but are restricted in the day-use area between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Cell phone service is limited within the park.
