About

Hearts Content Campground sits in the heart of Pennsylvania's Allegheny National Forest, bordering the Hickory Creek Wilderness Area. The 26 family campsites are nestled among native hardwoods and planted pines, each equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and tent pad or RV spur. Two sites also include lean-to shelters with charcoal grills. Facilities are semi-primitive with vault toilets, potable water from a hand pump, and a dump station at the exit. The campground serves as a gateway to exceptional backcountry recreation. The Hickory Creek Wilderness trailhead is just a quarter-mile north, offering a challenging 13-mile loop through rolling second-growth forest that is minimally marked to preserve its wild character. Directly across the road, Hearts Content Scenic Area protects a 122-acre remnant of old-growth forest with white pines, hemlocks, and beeches dating back 300-400 years. The one-mile Interpretive Old Growth Trail and a network of cross-country ski trails provide additional day-use options. The campground operates under a concession permit by Allegheny Site Management. Sites are reservable through Recreation.gov up to six months in advance, with a minimum three-day lead time. All sites are also available first-come, first-served. Quiet hours are 10 PM to 6 AM. Pets are permitted on leash and owners must clean up after them.
