About

Buckaloons Campground occupies a scenic location at the confluence of three waterways: the Allegheny River, Brokenstraw Creek, and Irvine Run. Once the site of an Indian trading post, the area features numerous apple trees and mixed hardwoods including sycamore, willow, alder, silver maple, and butternut. The campground serves as the starting point for the second designated segment of the Allegheny Wild and Scenic River, which runs nearly 50 miles downstream to Alcorn Island near Oil City. The 61-site campground includes 58 single sites, 2 double sites, and 1 group tent site. Electric hookups are available at 43 sites. Facilities include flush toilets, hot showers, potable water, and a dump station. A one-lane concrete boat launch provides river access, and amenities include a pavilion with electricity, basketball court, playground, and hardened fishing paths. The Seneca Interpretive Trail offers a one-mile loop for hiking and wildlife viewing. Water activities dominate recreation here. The Allegheny is a family-friendly river with little to no whitewater, ideal for canoeing, kayaking, and floating. Downstream lie the seven islands of the Allegheny Islands Wilderness, popular for dispersed camping and exploration. Fishing yields walleye, trout, and bass. Hunting and trapping are permitted in surrounding areas per Pennsylvania regulations. Blue herons, bald eagles, egrets, deer, bear, and turkey are commonly observed.
