About

Hawthorn Bluff occupies a prime position on the southwestern shore of Oologah Lake, a 30,000-acre reservoir on the Verdigris River managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The campground sits among old-growth post oak and blackjack oak forests that provide ample shade and habitat for deer, turkey, and migratory waterfowl. The facility offers 93 campsites spread across two loops. Loop A contains 67 standard electric sites with 30-amp service, including two ADA-accessible sites. Loop B has non-electric sites suitable for tent camping or self-contained RVs. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. Three group shelters with electric service accommodate up to 100 guests and include an amphitheater gazebo popular for weddings and ceremonies. Recreation centers on the lake, which supports black bass, crappie, channel catfish, blue catfish, walleye, and hybrid striped bass. A secure fishing dock and fish cleaning station serve anglers. Prevailing winds make Oologah one of Oklahoma's premier sailing lakes. The swimming beach, three playgrounds, and Skull Hollow nature trail provide additional activities. Dog Iron Ranch, Will Rogers' birthplace and a living history museum, is nearby.
