Tall Chief Cove

Closed — Closed for the winter season. The campground typically operates seasonally from spring through fall.

About

Located on beautiful Skiatook Lake in northeast Oklahoma, Tall Chief Cove is one of the most popular Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds in the region. The campground offers 50 individual sites with electric hookups spread across multiple loops along the forested lakeshore, plus one group picnic shelter that can accommodate up to 200 people. The facility provides comprehensive amenities including covered picnic tables, restrooms with showers, a swim beach, boat ramp, nature trail, playground, and recreational facilities including a professional volleyball court, basketball court, disc golf course, and horseshoe pits. A campground attendant is available Thursday through Monday from noon to 10 p.m. Gates are closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily. The surrounding landscape features gentle rolling hills of blackjack and post oak trees interspersed with tall grass prairie. Steep picturesque bluffs accent the shoreline and offer scenic views of the water. Sport fishing for largemouth bass, black and white crappie, channel catfish and sunfish is popular on the lake. Approximately 6,000 acres of public land in the area are open to hunters pursuing whitetail deer, quail, rabbit and squirrel.

Directions

From Tulsa, take Highway 75 north to State Highway 20. Take the Skiatook exit, turn west on State Highway 20 and drive about 15 miles. Turn left on Lake Road and proceed about 5 miles to the campground.
