About
Gull Lake Campground is a small, shaded facility nestled in a stand of mature aspen trees at 7,600 feet elevation in the June Lake area of the eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains. The intimate campground features just 11 sites, with five positioned directly on the shores of Gull Lake, offering excellent access to rainbow trout fishing and water activities. The campground is surrounded by dramatic 11,000 and 12,000-foot peaks and serves as a convenient base for exploring the region's diverse recreation opportunities. Nearby activities include paddling down Mono Creek, hiking to Mammoth Rock, and accessing trails to scenic Sherwin Lakes and Gaylor Lakes. The June Lake Loop scenic drive provides expansive views of rugged mountain terrain and multiple alpine lakes. The area is home to black bear, mountain lions, mule deer, pine marten, pika, and numerous fish and bird species. Each site is equipped with a bear locker, picnic table, and fire pit. The campground provides flush toilets and drinking water from a hand pump. Sites accommodate vehicles up to 25-30 feet, though longer RVs are not recommended due to short pads and a narrow turnaround. The Ansel Adams Wilderness is accessible via nearby trails, while Mono Lake and Yosemite National Park make excellent day trips.
Directions
From U.S. Highway 395, take the southern junction with Highway 158. Travel west on Highway 158 for 2.3 miles to June Lake, then continue 0.4 mile to the campground sign.
