Harralson Horse Camp

Closed

Closed for 2026 due to Cedar Creek Fire closure order. The closure runs through December 31, 2026, unless rescinded sooner.

About

Harralson Horse Camp is a small, quiet equestrian campground in the Middle Fork Ranger District of the Willamette National Forest, situated away from the shores of Waldo Lake. Unlike the busier North Waldo and Islet Campgrounds, Harralson offers a more secluded camping experience for horse campers. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring, though the camp lacks equestrian-specific improvements such as corrals or hitching posts. The campground has vault toilets but no potable water. Campers can obtain drinking water at nearby North Waldo Campground, and horses can be watered off the Waldo Lake Trail (#3590) near the camp. Access is via an unpaved road off Forest Road 5897. Harralson serves as an excellent staging area for equestrian exploration of the surrounding wilderness. The Harralson Trail (#4364) connects the camp to the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail (#2000), and the Jim Weaver Loop connects to trails in both the Waldo Lake and Three Sisters Wilderness areas. Note that stock is not permitted in any Waldo Lake campgrounds. Mosquitoes are heavy from June through mid-August.

Directions

From Oakridge, Oregon: At the intersection of Crestview Street and Highway 58 (at the traffic light), travel east on Highway 58 for 23.3 miles. Turn left onto Waldo Lake Road/Forest Road 5897 and travel approximately 12 miles. Where the paved road begins a sharp left curve, stay straight and follow the unpaved road into the camp.
