Greenbelt Park Picnic Areas provide group picnic facilities within this 1,100-acre urban forest in Prince George's County, Maryland. The park offers a peaceful, wooded retreat just 10 miles from Washington, D.C., with a pleasant mix of pine, oak, and maple trees. Mountain laurel blooms throughout the park in May, and Still Creek flows through the forest where deer and chipmunks are commonly seen. Two reservable picnic areas, Holly and Laurel, accommodate groups ranging from 25 to 200 people. Each area includes picnic tables, barbecue grills, and restroom facilities. Reservations can be made up to six months in advance through Recreation.gov. The Sweetgum Picnic Area near the park entrance serves smaller groups of 24 or fewer on a first-come, first-served basis and includes playground equipment. This is a day-use facility only. Permits are valid from 9:00 a.m. until sunset. No amplified music, DJs, propane grills, or alcohol are permitted. For overnight camping, visitors should book at the separate Greenbelt Campground within the park.
