Greenbelt Campground offers a peaceful wooded retreat remarkably close to the nation's capital. Situated in suburban Maryland just 10 miles from Washington D.C., this National Park Service facility provides an accessible escape for campers seeking both nature and urban proximity. The campground is forested with a mix of pine, oak, and maple trees that produce colorful autumn foliage, while Mountain Laurel blooms throughout the park in May. Still Creek flows through the site where deer and chipmunks are commonly spotted. The campground features 174 primitive sites across multiple loops, including standard nonelectric sites, tent-only sites, RV sites, and scout/youth/group areas in A Loop. Each campsite includes a picnic table and combination grill/campfire ring. While no electric or water hookups are available at individual sites, the campground provides flush toilets, hot showers, and a dump station. Sites 69 and 70 in B Loop are ADA accessible with accessible grills, restrooms, and picnic areas. The park offers 10 miles of hiking trails including Perimeter, Azalea, Dogwood, and Blueberry Trails. Sweetgum Picnic Area is located 1.5 miles from the campground with playground equipment. Nearby attractions include Goddard Space Flight Center (3 miles), the City of Greenbelt (1 mile), DC Metro access (1.5 miles), and major shopping centers within half a mile of the park entrance.

Directions

From I-95/495 (Capital Beltway), take Exit 23 Kenilworth Avenue South (Route 201) to Greenbelt Road East (Route 193). The park entrance is a quarter mile down Greenbelt Road on the right at 6565 Greenbelt Road.
