About
Greenbelt Park Campground offers an unexpected urban oasis just 10 miles from Washington D.C., combining National Park Service hospitality with convenient access to the nation's capital. The 172-site campground is surrounded by a pleasant mix of pine, oak, and maple trees, providing a peaceful forested setting despite its proximity to major metropolitan areas. The campground features four loops (A, B, C, and D) with paved roads and parking spurs that accommodate both tent campers and RVs. B Loop accepts RVs up to 30 feet, while D Loop can handle RVs up to 35 feet. All sites include a picnic table and combination grill/fire ring, with space for up to three tents, two vehicles, and six people per site. Campground amenities include flush toilets, hot showers available year-round, potable water stations, and a dump station. Rangers and campground hosts are available for assistance, with the Ranger Station staffed from 8:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. The campground operates on a reservation-only basis through Recreation.gov, with no on-site payment accepted. Scout groups have dedicated tent-only sites available year-round in Loop A. The park features 10 miles of hiking trails including the Perimeter, Azalea, Dogwood, and Blueberry Trails, where deer and chipmunks are commonly seen. The Washington D.C. Metro Transit System's Greenbelt Station is just 1.5 miles away, making it easy to explore the capital's historic sites without driving. The campground is known for its safety, affordability at $20 per night, and peaceful atmosphere, rarely reaching capacity except during holiday weekends.
