About
Fort Dupont Park Picnic Areas are located within one of Washington D.C.'s largest urban parks, spanning 376 rolling wooded acres east of the Anacostia River. The park features oak, beech, and maple trees covering the hillsides, along with a large area of mountain laurel that blooms each spring. Civil War-era earthworks add historical significance to the natural setting. Three group picnic areas are available for reservation: Randle Circle Picnic Areas A and B offer picnic tables, grills, a nearby restroom building, and playground. The Historic Earthwork (Lanham Estates) picnic area on Alabama Avenue provides a picnic shelter, tables, grill, and fireplace. Additional picnic areas operate on a first-come, first-served basis. This is a day-use facility only; overnight camping is not permitted. Reservations are offered in morning (8am-2pm) and afternoon (3pm-8pm) sessions. The park also offers hiking trails, mountain biking, Civil War programs, gardening, environmental education, concerts, and youth programs.
