About
Grayback Campground occupies a hillside setting about a quarter-mile above Highway 21 in the Boise National Forest, surrounded by ponderosa pine forest at 4,200 feet elevation. The campground offers 15 single sites and 3 double sites in the main area, plus two large group sites capable of hosting 100-150 people each. All individual sites feature paved parking, picnic tables, lantern hooks, and campfire rings with grills. Potable water is available from accessible hand pumps, and vault toilets serve the area. Mores Creek flows just below the campground, offering fishing for rainbow trout and whitefish. The Grayback Loop Trail provides an easy 1-mile hiking option that begins within the campground. Historic Idaho City lies just two miles north, with restaurants, shops, a museum, and visitor center. The surrounding area offers extensive recreation including hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and OHV trails. In winter, the region becomes popular for backcountry skiing and snowmobiling. Highway 21, the Ponderosa Pine Scenic Byway, provides access to hot springs and other historic sites.
