About

Cottonwood Campground is a small, primitive campground nestled along Cottonwood Creek in Idaho's Boise National Forest. With only three first-come first-served campsites, it offers a quiet, secluded experience for those seeking to escape the crowds. The campground is free to use and provides basic amenities including a vault toilet, fire rings, and picnic tables at each site. Campers must bring their own drinking water as none is available on-site. The campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the surrounding area. The Middle Fork Boise River lies just north and offers quality fishing opportunities. Arrowrock Reservoir, a premier fishing destination in southwest Idaho known for rainbow and cutthroat trout, is accessible via FS Road 268. The nearby Cottonwood Trail provides hiking access to Bald Mountain. Access requires travel on Forest Service roads that can be narrow and rough in sections. From Boise, take Highway 21 north to FS Road 268, then travel approximately 16 miles east past Arrowrock Dam before turning left onto FS Road 377 for about one mile to reach the campground.

Directions

From Boise, travel north on Highway 21 to the Forest Road 268 junction toward Arrowrock Reservoir. Turn right and travel east on FS Road 268 past Arrowrock Dam for approximately 16 miles. Turn left onto FS Road 377 and continue about 1 mile to the campground. Use caution on FS Road 268 as it can be narrow and rough.
