About
Irish Point Dispersed is a free, primitive camping area located on the shore of Arrowrock Reservoir within Boise National Forest. The site sits in a scenic setting of sparsely distributed pine trees with direct waterfront access to the reservoir. As dispersed camping, there are no marked or designated campsites, allowing flexibility in choosing your spot along the shoreline. Access requires traveling Highway 21 northeast from Boise to Arrowrock Road (Forest Road 268), then continuing approximately 14 miles on gravel road to reach Irish Point. The road is narrow and can be rough, making it unsuitable for large RVs. The reservoir itself is an 18-mile narrow canyon covering 3,150 acres. Facilities are minimal: a single vault toilet is available, but there is no potable water, trash service, or other amenities. Campers must be fully self-contained and follow Leave No Trace principles. Fishing is the primary draw, with trout, bass, and crappie available in the reservoir. Bull trout are protected and must be released.
Directions
From Boise, take Highway 21 northeast toward Idaho City. Turn right onto Arrowrock Road (Forest Road 268). Continue approximately 14 miles on gravel road to Irish Point. Total drive time approximately 1 hour from Boise.
