About

Skidway Campground is a rustic Forest Service campground located near the top of Deep Creek Canyon along U.S. Highway 12 in Montana's Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest. The 13 campsites are spread across 18 acres of hillside terrain shaded by birch and spruce timber, providing privacy and a genuine backcountry atmosphere at 5,500 feet elevation. The campground offers basic amenities including vault toilets (ADA accessible) and established fire pits and picnic tables at each site. This is a pack-it-in, pack-it-out facility with no trash service. The maximum recommended trailer length is 16 feet due to the narrow canyon road and site configurations. Deep Creek and the surrounding Big Belt Mountains provide opportunities for trout fishing and hiking. The canyon scenery along Highway 12 is notable, and the campground's position near the canyon rim offers views of the surrounding terrain.
