Skidway Campground is situated at 5,500 feet elevation near the top of Deep Creek Canyon in the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest, approximately 21 miles east of Townsend on Highway 12. The campground features 13 campsites spread across 18 acres on two loops along ridges overlooking the Deep Creek Canyon. Sites are widely dispersed among Douglas fir, aspen, and birch timber, providing a forested mountain setting. The campground serves as a base for exploring the surrounding Big Belt Mountains. The Grassy Mountain Trail begins within the campground and climbs to ridgeline views. Deep Creek offers fishing opportunities, and the nearby Skidway Cross-Country Ski Trail provides winter recreation when snow conditions permit. The campground's location in Deep Creek Canyon provides a scenic mountain environment with opportunities for wildlife viewing and solitude. Skidway Campground operates seasonally from May through October and is first-come, first-served with no advance reservations. The campground has a 14-day stay limit and a maximum recommended trailer length of 16 feet due to the mountain terrain and site configuration. Sites include picnic tables and fire rings, with vault toilets available. Campers should be prepared to bring their own water as potable water is not consistently available at the site.

From Townsend, travel east approximately 21 miles on U.S. Highway 12 through Deep Creek Canyon, and turn right at the entrance to Skidway Campground.
