About

Gold Dredge Campground is a peaceful, primitive campground nestled in an open Ponderosa pine stand along the Wild and Scenic North Fork John Day River in Oregon's Umatilla National Forest. The campground features 7 campsites, including one group site (Site 6), and offers a quiet retreat with light usage levels. The riverside setting provides excellent opportunities for photography, swimming, non-motorized boating, and fishing, though water levels drop in mid to late summer which can impede boat use. The area also offers good access for big game hunting. The Oriental Trailhead, located about 6 miles west, provides access to both OHV and wilderness trails. This is a primitive campground with no potable water and no garbage service, so campers must bring their own water and pack out all trash. One accessible vault toilet serves the campground. Single sites are $8 per night with a $5 fee for each vehicle beyond the two-vehicle-per-site allowance, while the group site is $25 per night.
