The campground is maintained from late May through mid-November, with fees charged through November 15. First-come, first-served only. Winter access requires snowmobiles once Highway 244 becomes impassable due to snow.

Bear Wallow Creek Campground is a quiet 8-site campground in the Umatilla National Forest, managed by the North Fork John Day Ranger District. Located 11.5 miles east of Ukiah along State Highway 244, it provides a simple, lightly-used camping experience among the pines adjacent to Bear Wallow Creek. The campground features one ADA-accessible campsite and two accessible vault toilets. There is no potable water available, so campers must bring their own supply. Garbage service is not provided; pack out all trash. Sites include picnic tables. Fees are $8 per night with a $5 charge for additional vehicles beyond the two-vehicle-per-site limit. Occupancy is limited to 8 people per site. Nearby attractions include hunting, bird watching, and photography opportunities. A highlight is the quarter-mile accessible interpretive trail with compacted gravel surface and log-hewn benches, featuring educational information about the steelhead salmon life cycle. The trail is relatively flat and suitable for all ability levels.
