About

Driftwood Campground is a small, primitive campground tucked along the banks of the Wild and Scenic North Fork John Day River in the Umatilla National Forest. The campground features six sites, one accessible vault toilet, and a boat put-in site for rafting. Three sites easily accommodate most trailer sizes, two fit only small trailers, and one site has a tight turnaround unsuitable for RVs. Attractions in the area include swimming, non-motorized boating, and fishing, though water levels drop in mid to late summer which can impede boat use. The campground provides good access for big game hunting, and the Oriental Trailhead about 8 miles west offers both OHV and wilderness trail access. This is a pack-it-out campground with no potable water or garbage service. Campers must bring their own drinking water and haul out all trash. The campground is maintained seasonally from late May through mid-November, with fees charged through November 15. Winter access is available via snowmobile only once snow closes the road.
