Open — Open year-round on a first-come, first-served basis. The campground is maintained seasonally from Memorial Day through mid-November. Fees of $8 per night are collected through November 15. During winter, the campground remains available but unmaintained, with access by snowmobile only once snow makes the road impassable.
Alcohol Prohibitions
This Order describes acts that are prohibited upon lands, roads and trails within the National Forest System administered by the Forest Service Pacific Northwest Region in regards to alcoholic beverages.
Aquatic Invasive Species
This Order prohibits 1) possessing, storing, or transporting any aquatic invasive animal species AND 2) prohibits possessing, storing, or transporting any aquatic or riparian invasive plant species - on National Forest System lands in the Pacific Northwest Region as specified in the Order.

About
Driftwood Campground sits on the banks of the Wild and Scenic North Fork John Day River in Umatilla National Forest. This intimate 6-site campground offers a vault toilet and a put-in site for rafting. The campground provides no potable water or garbage service, so visitors must pack out all trash. The North Fork John Day River offers swimming, non-motorized boating, and fishing opportunities, though water levels drop in mid to late summer which can impede boat use. The area provides good access for big game hunting. The Oriental Trailhead is located about 8 miles west, providing access to both OHV and wilderness trails into the North Fork John Day Wilderness.
Directions
From Ukiah, travel west 1 mile to the Highway 395 junction. Turn left (south) on Highway 395 and go about 15 miles, then turn left (east) onto Forest Service Road 55. Drive 5.2 miles east along the North Fork John Day River to Driftwood Campground.
