About

Drift Fence Campground sits along the paved Blue Mountain Scenic Byway in Oregon's Umatilla National Forest. This small, rustic campground has traditionally served as a hunting camp and offers 6 campsites, each with a picnic table, and 2 vault toilets. There is no potable water or garbage service, so campers must bring their own water and pack out all trash. The campground is located in the North Fork John Day Ranger District, approximately 7 miles south of Ukiah via County Road 1475/Forest Service Road 52. The access road is in poor condition, making this site unsuitable for large RVs. The campground is free and operates on a first-come, first-served basis. The surrounding area offers hunting, wildlife and wildflower viewing, and photography opportunities. Fishing is available at several nearby stocked ponds, including Twin Ponds, which hosts an annual Fishing Derby. The Bridge Creek Wildlife Viewing Area, known for elk viewing, is just a few miles down the road. Visitors can also pick up the Ukiah-Granite Roadside Geology tour brochure at the Ranger District office for a scenic day trip.
