About
Welch Creek Campground has long been a favorite gathering spot for family reunion camp-outs and group hunting trips in the Umatilla National Forest. Located on the banks of Desolation Creek, the campground's open area and easy parking access make it ideal for group events. The facility features 6 campsites including one designated group site, an accessible vault toilet, and a 4-stall recreational stock corral for equestrian campers. The campground serves as a trailhead for the Desolation OHV trail system, making it popular with off-highway vehicle enthusiasts. Other local attractions include hunting, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, sight-seeing, and photography. Olive Lake, offering fishing, boating, and swimming opportunities, is located about 13 miles to the east along Forest Road 10. This is a primitive campground with no potable water or garbage service, so campers must pack out all trash and bring their own water supply. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. Access is via Forest Service Road 10, and in winter, the site remains available but unmaintained, with access by snowmobile only once snow closes the road.
