About

Welch Creek Campground has long been a favorite gathering spot for family reunion camp-outs and group hunting trips in the Umatilla National Forest. The campground's open area and easy parking access make it ideal for such events, with all sites accommodating large RVs. The facility includes 6 campsites: 2 back-in sites, 3 pull-beside sites, and Site 6, a large pull-through group site that accommodates up to 40 people and sits directly adjacent to the 4-stall recreational stock corral. Amenities are basic: there is one accessible vault toilet but no potable water or garbage service. Campers must bring their own water and pack out all trash. The campground sits on the bank of Desolation Creek and serves as a trailhead for the Desolation OHV trail system. Local attractions include hunting, fishing, hiking, horseback riding, and photography. Olive Lake, offering fishing, boating, and swimming, is approximately 13 miles east along Forest Road 10. The campground is maintained from Memorial Day through mid-November, but remains accessible year-round when not blocked by snow. Winter access requires snowmobiles once roads become impassable.
