About

Big Creek Meadows Campground is a compact, increasingly popular destination for OHV enthusiasts and wilderness hikers in the Umatilla National Forest. Situated in a riparian area adjacent to Big Creek, the campground provides direct access to the North Fork John Day Wilderness via Big Creek Trail #3151. Three OHV trails connect to the campground: Tower Loop Trail #3040, Meadow Creek Trail #3193, and Christensen Trail #3185. The campground offers basic amenities including an accessible vault toilet and picnic tables at each of the three sites. There is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. No trash service is provided; pack out all garbage. The large parking area accommodates truck and stock trailers for those accessing the wilderness. Popular activities include wilderness hiking, hunting, fishing, and OHV riding. Huckleberries can be found nearby in mid-August. The site lies directly adjacent to the Blue Mountain National Scenic Byway, and campers can pick up the Ukiah-Granite Roadside Geology tour brochure at the Ranger District for a scenic day trip.
