About

Glimmerglass State Park is located eight miles outside Cooperstown on the shores of Otsego Lake, known as the "Glimmerglass" in James Fenimore Cooper's famous Leatherstocking Tales. The park's 593 acres of rolling, partially-wooded terrain support diverse wildlife and offer scenic lake views. The campground features 50 campsites with picnic tables and grills, accommodating up to six people per site with a two-night minimum stay. All campsites have access to showers and modern facilities. The park's swimming beach operates seasonally with a concession stand, and visitors can launch canoes and kayaks from the accessible cartop boat launch near the campground. Hiking trails wind through the forest, including the Beaver Pond Nature Trail and Woodland Trail, showcasing wildflowers, ferns, and mosses. An uphill trail provides spectacular views of Otsego Lake. Historic attractions include the Hyde Hall Mansion and a covered bridge. Winter visitors enjoy cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, ice fishing, and winter hiking. The park is open year-round from dawn to dusk, with camping available from mid-May through Columbus Day.
