About
Mine Kill State Park is a 500-acre day-use park situated in the scenic Schoharie Valley of Schoharie County, New York, overlooking the New York Power Authority's Blenheim-Gilboa Pumped Storage Power Project. The park is named for Mine Kill Creek, which cascades 80 feet through a narrow gorge creating the picturesque Mine Kill Falls, accessible via the Long Path hiking trail with overlook viewing platforms. The park offers diverse year-round recreation on 8 miles of trails suitable for hiking and mountain biking. The lower reservoir provides excellent fishing opportunities, stocked with trout and walleye, and also contains bass. The boat launch operates April 1 to October 15, with all boaters required to use the hot water boat wash station before and after launching. Summer highlights include a free Olympic-size pool, wading pool, and diving pool open from late June through Labor Day, with swim lessons offered in two 4-week sessions. The park also features a popular disc golf course with rentals available. Winter activities include ice skating, tubing, sledding, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing, with equipment rentals available at the park office. Bow hunting for deer is permitted by permit only through a New York Power Authority lottery system. The park entrance is free of charge courtesy of the New York Power Authority. Mine Kill State Park has picnic pavilions and tent shelters available for group reservation but does not operate traditional overnight camping facilities with tent or RV sites.
