Gilbert Lake State Park sits in the scenic foothills of the Catskills in Otsego County, encompassing a peaceful lake and three ponds surrounded by rolling, forested hills. The campground features 135 sites split between two areas: Hilltop (sites 1-57) and Deer Run (sites 59-135), with select sites offering electric hookups at 15 or 30 amps. Additionally, 33 cabins ranging from 4-person to 6-person capacity provide a more sheltered camping experience. The park offers over 12 miles of interconnecting trails for hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling. Summer visitors enjoy a guarded swimming beach, kayak rentals, fishing, a disc golf course, and playgrounds. A nature center and recreation programs run seasonally. Note that cell service is very poor throughout the park. Quiet hours are enforced from 10 p.m. to 8 p.m., and generators may only run from 9-11 a.m. and 5-9 p.m. Each campsite accommodates up to 6 people and 2 tents. Pets are welcome at campsites with a maximum of two per site, current rabies vaccination, and a 6-foot leash requirement.
